UCCSU COUNCIL - Update

The current Student Representative Council Chair has formally resigned from their position. UCC Students’ Union would like to sincerely acknowledge and thank the outgoing Chair for their commitment, leadership, and contribution to Council over the past year.

Following this resignation, a Council Chair by-election will take place at an upcoming meeting of Student Council. The Council Chair plays a vital role within the Union, acting as the impartial chair of Council, moderating debate, ruling on procedural matters, and ensuring meetings are conducted in line with Standing Orders. The Chair also works with the Steering Committee to review motions and represents the interests of Council on the UCCSU Executive.

Any UCC student is eligible to run for the position. Candidates are asked to prepare a speech of up to three minutes outlining why they believe they should be elected Council Chair. Where a substantial amount of Irish is used, candidates may speak for up to four minutes.

Students interested in running are encouraged to register their interest with the Education Officer, and candidates may also put themselves forward on the day.
