
Full-Time Officer Roles
What are the Full-Time Officer Roles?
The Officer roles are the full time paid positions available in the Students’ Union. There are 6 positions available:
- President
- Education Officer
- Welfare Officer
- Communications and Engagement Officer
- Commercial and Fundraising Officer
- Entertainments Officer
These officers are required to take a paid 12-month sabbatical year of leave starting in the summer. They must be a registered student with University College Cork.
How to run for an Officer Role
To be on the ballot for a sabbatical position, candidates must receive 10 nominations from registered UCC Students, collected by a Google Form. The nomination form will be circulated by the Students’ Union upon the open of nominations.
Nominations will open on the 15th of March 2021.
Nominations will close on the 19th of March 2021 at 5pm.
Nomination forms must include candidate’s name, student number, photo of student card, contact details and title of the position the candidate is running for.
Completed nomination forms must be accompanied by a copy of the candidate’s manifesto, by sending a digital copy to the following email address: elections@uccsu.ie. Failure to do so will result in the candidate being deemed ineligible to run.
All candidates must scan and email a signed copy of the Election Rules and Regulations Agreement upon submission of their nomination. Candidates signing in acceptance of the rules and regulations and are signing on behalf of their campaign team.
Sabbatical candidates may not spend in excess of €300 on their campaign. A candidate is not permitted to spend more than 1⁄3 of their campaign allowance (up to a max of €100) on social media advertising. Candidates must follow all the Election Regulations 2021 or risk being fined and/or disqualified from the election.
Digital hustings will take place on March 24th 2021.
The election will take place online from March 29th to March 31st 2021. Results will be announced by the SU President over the course of the day on April 1st 2021.
Positions Available
President
The president is the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Finance Officer of the Union.
They are the principal representative for the UCC student body, the chief spokesperson for the Union, a member of UCC’s Governing Body and Academic Council, an ex-officio member at all Union committees, and the principal delegate and spokesperson to USI National Council and USI Congress.
The role includes:
- Co-ordinating all Union affairs
- Protecting, upholding and interpreting the SU constitution
- Implementing Union policy
- Promoting and encouraging student representation on University committees and bodies
- Strategic development of the union
- Chairing meetings of the SU Executive
- Oversight of all SU campaigns and events
- Safeguarding the SU’s finances

Education Officer
The Vice President for Education (or ‘Education Officer’) is the primary representative for the academic interests of the UCC student body.
The role includes:
- Providing academic supports and information to students
- Updating students on all academic affairs
- Electing and supporting Class Representatives (with assistance from the College Representatives)
- Running campaigns related to academic affairs
- Sitting on relevant academic University committees and bodies

Welfare Officer
The Vice President for Welfare (or ‘Welfare Officer’) is the primary representative for the welfare interests of the UCC student body.
The role includes:
- Running a listening, advice and referral service for students
- Developing welfare related policies and lobbying the University on their implementation
- Representing student interests in relation to accommodation
- Updating students on changes within the welfare structure of the university
- Sitting on relevant welfare related University committees and bodies

Communications and Engagement Officer
The Vice President for Communications and Engagement (or ‘Communications and Engagement Officer’) is responsible for the management of the Union’s communications both internally and externally
The role includes:
- Writing, editing, producing and distributing and Union publications and content
- Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with media contacts
- Facilitating student civic engagement in social, local, national and international issues
- Responding to student and public inquiries
- Ensuring the quality of the SU’s communications
- Management of the SU’s branding

Commercial and Fundraising Officer
The Vice President for Commercial Activity and Fundraising (or ‘Commercial and Fundraising Officer’) is responsible for developing, managing promoting all of the Union’s commercial and fundraising activities to support the Union’s income generation and maximise the Union’s charitable contributions
The role includes:
- Developing sponsorship agreements with businesses
- Develop the SU’s commercial strategies and policies
- Develop and promote fundraising activities and projects
- Facilitate on-campus promotions for external businesses
- Maintain a database of commercial contacts
- Utilise the SU social media accounts for paid advertisement

Entertainments Officer
The Vice President for Entertainments and Events (or ‘Entertainments Officer’) is the primary representative of the entertainment interests/needs of the UCC Student Body.
The role includes:
- Organisation of varied events that cater to students
- Advising student groups on event co-ordination
- Organisation of main student weeks (eg. RAG and Freshers)
- Build a positive relationship with UCC’s Clubs and Societies
- Sitting on relevant University committees and bodies
