Pay Rise for Student Nurses & Midwives Agreed

We are absolutely delighted to welcome the announcement that pay rates for student nurses are set to rise. This is an issue we have been strongly campaigning on for the past number of years along side some incredibly passionate student nurses, the Union of Students’ in Ireland, the INMO and many others.

Under a new agreement between the Government and nursing unions, student nurses who must spend 36 weeks in a hospital / clinical setting to complete their qualifications, will see their rate of pay rise from €6.49 per hour to €9.49 per hour.

This means that student nurses will be paid at 70% of the 1st point of the Staff Nurse salary scale.

The decision will take effect from 1st March and will benefit around 1,400 final year student nurses this year and in all subsequent years.
